My Journey- Kaya Skin Clinic Laser Hair Reduction

Summer means a lot of sleeveless tops and dresses which needs a lot of personal grooming esp Underarms.
No matter how expensive/fancy clothes you wear, a peek of those hairy underarms is a BIG no no and it ruins the whole look.
I had always wanted to try Underarms Laser Hair Reduction but figured it would be too expensive or just the name "Laser" sounded scary lol
1 month back i was given complimentary service from Kaya Skin Clinic to try their Permanent Laser Hair Reduction and finally gathered the courage to try it out.
The complimentary service consists of 3 sessions. I have already finished 2 and the last session is in June.
For those who wants to know how it feels like or how you can prepare yourself for the session,
read on to know about my experience.

HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE SESSION-
1.Make sure you have proper growth of hair.
If you have shaved/waxed the area to be treated , there needs to be atleast 14 days gap to let the hair grow.

2.Preferably wear a top/kurta that is loose around the armpit or a sleeveless dress.
(After the session they apply aftercare moisturizer and i had some itchy sensation after the first session on contact with the tight tee i wore)

3.You will be given a gown to change into before the session begins. So don't worry about your clothes getting messy.

4.Ask about which laser they use-
Nd-Yag Laser-  1064 nm Its the old one. This is more suitable for those with coarse hair.
(made for treating darker skin types, though effective on all skin types)

Diode Laser-810 nm (Near-Infrared) (for pale to medium type skin)The new painfree laser.
And ideal for thin hair. As of now in Delhi this is available only in Green Park and Gurgaon branch.

5.One session lasts only 10-15 minutes so you don't have to worry about spending half of your day at the clinic. Does not burn or hurt- Uses cooling gel.

6.Avoid water on that area for 1 day and avoid deodarants for 2 days.
Keep the area well moisturised by applying your normal moisturise or Laser after care cream atleast thrice a day for 5-7 days.

7.After the first session, the underarms hair will start to grow but don't panic. 5-7 days later these new growths fall off by themselves. The shedding is gradual and goes on for upto 2 weeks.

8.Each session should be approx 30 days apart.
The laser works only during the Anagen phase ie Actively growing phase of hair.

MECHANISM-
The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL), the matching of a
specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to obtain optimal effect on a
targeted tissue with minimal effect on surrounding tissue.
Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter, melanin, in the area that causes hair growth, the follicle, while not heating the rest of the skin.

MY EXPERIENCE-
I have very less hair.So after the first session itself my underarm hair was reduced to half  by the time it was full grown.
Immediately following the first session the area felt sensitive and itchy which i did not experience in the second session.
The hair that does not shed and continues to grow are much finer than the usual ones.
For Orientals usually 3-4 sessions are more than enough.
But those who are hairy usually requires upto 6 sessions.
So , i'm sure 3 sessions would be perfect for me.
I am totally loving the result.
No more messy waxing and salon visits.
Occasional stray hair might happen after 3 sessions too but i think i can take care of that.
REMEMBER-It is laser hair "REDUCTION" and not "REMOVAL" so don't expect a miracle overnight.
Good things take time. :p
Overall it is worth the money and if you can afford it don't be scared to take the plunge.
